Paramount Pictures looking into taking over DreamWorks
A unit of the Viacom Inc., Paramount Pictures is said to be having talks with the DreamWorks SKG for a potential takeover deal, which would be, could be around USD 1 Billion. If the deal goes through, it would topple a lower offer from the NBC Universal as per reports circulating in the media. DreamWorks has practically ended their talks with the NBC Universal and that makes Paramount Pictures to be the most probable candidate for the takeover.
Paramount would itself bring in close to USD 200 million for the deal and would be seeking an additional USD 800 million from outside investors. Paramount and NBC both have been pretty keen on taking over this setup, which was founded by Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen.
The studio has close to 60 high profile titles including biggies like Saving Private Ryan and Gladiator. Viacom has not commented on these market reports and the deal if it takes place would bring good news to the Paramount Pictures, which has been working hard on its own revival under the leadership of Paramount chief Brad Grey.
