ICANN delays approval of .XXX domains

ICANN has again delayed the proposal to approve the .xxx domains for adult content on the internet. This domain name extension is being considered to handle adult online content and with the latest delays, it faces an uncertain future. The proposal was due to be finalized at an ICANN board meeting in Vancouver. Now, it has been removed from the agenda for this meeting.

They had already delayed this decision in the month of September and this is the second delay in the last couple of months. ICANN said that they needed more time to review a 350-page report into the creation of .XXX domain name extension. This report was interestingly finished way back in the month of August.

The proposed creation of .XXX has already caused many controversies in some conservative groups in the US who are lobbying for its cancellation. And rumors in the market suggest that even the US government is asking other nations to oppose this proposal. However, reports from Vancouver suggest that it is the European Union, which is blocking this domain extension with the aim of reducing the US influence over the Internet.

However, all this mismanagement and delays goes on to highlight the flaws in the current state of Internet governance.
