DaimlerChrysler says no interest in Volkswagen
Their were rumors in the market that the American auto giant DaimlerChrysler was interested in buying out a stake in the German auto giant Volkswagen. However, the latest news in that DaimlerChrysler has clarified that they have no interest in doing so. The company said that they are not and have no plans for doing such deal.
The company had denied commenting on this rumor until now. Volkswagen is already involved in a deal with Porsche where the latter is buying a fifth of Wolfsburg, Germany-based Volkswagen’s common shares to protect a strategic partnership. It is pretty regular in Germany for companies to do such deals to protect foreign acquisitions.
Volkswagen and DaimlerChrysler are however rumored to be considering on whether to produce the successor to DaimlerChrysler’s Smart ForFour at a Volkswagen plant. Both the companies have refused to comment on this statement released by Die Welt without quoting their sources.
