Google Cloud Storage now offer encrypted storage of user data for free

Google has announced a major new enhancement on their Google Cloud Storage platform.

The company said that they are now encrypting all user data without any additional steps at no extra charge.

All the data is decrypted on the fly as soon as an authenticated user seeks it. Best part is that Google promises that the whole process does not add any visible performance impact.

Google added:

If you require encryption for your data, this functionality frees you from the hassle and risk of managing your own encryption and decryption keys. We manage the cryptographic keys on your behalf using the same hardened key management systems that Google uses for our own encrypted data, including strict key access controls and auditing.

They are now encrypting all fresh data added to their servers. Existing data is also being migrated slowly and the process should be complete in a couple of weeks’ time.

I wish Google offers something similar to Google Drive users as well!
