Google developers are running another experiment with the omnibar in Chrome and Chrome OS.

They call it the origin chip. It shows the hostname of the web page you have loaded outside the omnibar to the right of it.

The omnibar remains blank until you switch focus to it. That’s when the complete URL appears.

It gets confusing if you rely on looking at the omnibar to know where you are…
