Android patent litigation arrives in India: Ericsson sues Micromax

We have already seen loads of patent infringement cases filed internationally involving companies like Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Apple, Nokia and others.

We now have the first major case specific to Indian market involving an Indian manufacturer of Android devices.

Ericsson has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Micromax claiming that they are violating their patents related to GSM, EDGE and 3G technologies.

Micromax is one of the largest local vendor of smartphones and tablets in the Indian market. So they are indeed the most likely target. We imagine, next in line could be players like Karbonn and Lava.

Ericsson is asking for Rs. 100 crores in damages.
